Core Beliefs

What We Believe

Our beliefs are rooted in Scripture and shaped by the Wesleyan tradition. These foundational truths guide our faith, our worship, and how we live as followers of Jesus Christ.

Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, who is the maker of heaven and earth, and all that is seen and unseen.  We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father: through Him all things were made.  For us and for our salvation, He came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and became truly human. For our sake, He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered death and was buried. On the third day, He arose again in accordance with the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end.  We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son, is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.  We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come, Amen.

Explanation of the Nicene Creed by Section

God is the one holy and true God. He is eternal, all powerful, all present, and a living God. He rules in concert as the Holy Trinity.

The Son was always present from the beginning and is part of the Godhead. He was there at creation.

We believe that Jesus came to earth as God but was born in human form through the Virgin Mary because of the Holy Spirit.  Jesus Christ, therefore, possesses both Divine and human natures that are therefore perfect and inseparable.

We believe that God had a plan to reconcile us with Him and that was through Jesus Christ.  By the death of Jesus on the cross, all of our sins were taken upon him, and we were made right with God.  Because of this act, our only way to salvation is through Jesus Christ.

The Holy Spirit is the third member of the Trinity and is worshipped and glorified.  The Holy Spirit goes forth as God with us. The Spirit comforts, sustains, and empowers the faithful and guides us into all truth. The Spirit convinces the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgement.

The church is a Christian community of believers under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.  It is a fellowship that is guided by the Holy Spirit, and under the discipline of the Holy Scriptures.

Baptism is a new birth in Christ. Baptism is a symbol of repentance and inner cleansing from sin. It is a mark of Christian discipleship.

Through our faith in God, we believe in life after death and we look forward to that day we can be with Jesus

Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.  And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.  I believe in the Holy Spirit, The holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting.  Amen.
